The Executive Committee of The Insurance Institute of Ireland (III) has announced the appointment of Eamon Shackleton, to the position of Chief Executive Officer of the organisation. Eamon takes on this position having previously served as The Institute’s Chief Operating Officer for the past year.

In his capacity as Chief Executive Officer, Eamon will guide The Insurance Institute of Ireland through an extensive educational development phase, which will see the Institute being recognised as a world class provider of professional development in the insurance sector.
Eamon is a former member of the executive team of the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) and held a number of senior management positions for companies based in The US and the Middle East.
He is a law graduate and qualified barrister from the Kings Inns and holds an MBA in strategic management and an MA in Ethnomusicology from the Open University in the UK
Commenting on his appointment, Eamon Shackleton said: “I am very honoured and excited to be taking on this role at a time of significant change and challenge facing the insurance industry. The Institute’s role in meeting the professional development needs of its members has never been more vital. I aim to bring a renewed sense of focus to the job, strengthening our member centric culture and delivering innovative, value added services that are more relevant, immediate and local to the industry.”
He added: “The III’s strategy is focussed on a move away from statutory compliance towards more meaningful professional development. This will not only help provide competitive advantage to companies but will also prepare them and their staff for the inevitable post financial crisis recovery.”
The Insurance Institute of Ireland is the national body for insurance professionals in Ireland, enabling its 14,000 active members to achieve nationally and internationally recognised professional insurance qualifications.
