The German Eurozone Empire<\/p><\/div>\n

A year ago I described Europe as being, in all but name, Germany\u2019s empire of 500 million people – but one about to become a major burden. It would nevertheless stand by its \u201ctroubled empire.\u201d Notwithstanding domestic opposition, Germany would \u201cprovide or mobilize enough financial aid\u201d to avoid collapse of the Eurozone, \u201cwhich would be so devastating to the nation\u2019s political, economic and financial interests.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Berlin would impose a price for its support \u2013 acceptance by the profligate South of German values.<\/p>\n

Another commentator, Peter Oborne, has also now started writing about Europe as Germany\u2019s evolving empire. He says the latest bail-out was a \u201cdecisive step\u201d towards a fiscal union.<\/p>\n

That means Southern European member-nations \u201cface a future as vassal states, their role reduced to the one enjoyed by the European colonies\u201d in the past. They will provide \u201ca ready market for the manufactured goods and services provided by the far more productive and efficient Northern Europeans.\u201d<\/p>\n

While the Southerners, unable to compete, \u201crelapse into pre-modern economic systems, Germany is busy turning into one of the most dynamic and productive economies in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n
