Be energy efficient, appeals Peters

Pretoria - Energy Minister Dipuo Peters has appealed to the public to continue reducing their electricity consumption to ensure that the country’s lights are kept on and that it hosts a successful World Cup, free of any electricity disruptions.

“We therefore urge our communities and the public at large to continuously reduce their consumption of electricity, and thus ensure that Eskom and other role-players are able to keep the lights on,” said Peters.

The minister also expressed satisfaction that all the stadiums where games have been played so far did not experience any electricity interruptions.

“More importantly that millions of our people were able to watch games at their homes and fan parks and other public viewing areas with very little electricity interruptions,” she said.

She however expressed concern about continued reports of cable and electricity theft.

“Such criminal practices do not only hamper the provision of electricity, they also expose our communities, especially our children, to dangerous and hazardous conditions – this may lead to injury and loss of life. This is highly unacceptable,” she explained.

Those who are behind the theft will meet the might of the law she said. -BuaNews
