Post SA-Iran Joint Commission sits for 12th meeting

International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane and her delegation have arrived in Tehran for the 12th meeting of the SA-Iran Joint Commission.

The commission remains one of South Africa’s longest-serving and most successful structured bilateral mechanisms.

The 12th session will afford the two countries the opportunity to engage in deliberations related to geo-political and peace and security developments in their respective regions. SA and Iran will also review the status of bilateral relations and assess the potential for enhanced cooperation.

The two countries enjoy cooperation across varied fields, including arts and culture, agriculture, education and health, and the potential for the expansion thereof remains positive.

South Africa considers Iran to be an important friend and partner and recognises the important role Iran assumes regionally and internationally within global governance and multilateral architecture, particularly as the incumbent chair of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

The delegation led by Minister Nkoana-Mashabane includes the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Mzwandile Masina, as well as senior government officials from the Departments of Energy, Treasury, Water and Sanitation, as well as Science and Technology. – SAnews.gov.za
